National Book Day: a tribute to literature

On October 29, National Book Day is celebrated. The date came with the founding of the National Library of Brazil, in 1810, by the Portuguese Crown, in Rio de Janeiro. At this time, D. João VI brought the thousands of archives of the Royal Portuguese Library to Brazil, initiating the collection of the current largest library in Latin America and seventh largest in the world.

Mauro Felippe, a poet and lawyer from Santa Catarina, honors the importance of books and words to the human being in his poem "Escritas", which composes the work "Specters". Check out the excerpt:

Books are sources that overflow
No animal describes the past
Neither what happens in this
Neither draws the future
The man, at least, ventes writing
